Because of its financial difficulties, it was placed under the management of the publisher of Osaka mainichi shinbun in 1911. After the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, it rebuilt its circulation, and, together with the Tokyo asahi shinbun, dominated eastern Japan's newspaper world.
