明治24年4月 ; 東京 ; 請求記号:チ5 3951 ; 3枚続 ; 36×71cm ; 各地に謀略の渦巻く維新前夜の江戸、薩摩藩が使嗾する浪人が市中で狼籍沙汰をくりかえした。これに業を煮やした市中取締役の庄内藩は、配下の新徴組を使いついに三田薩摩屋敷を襲撃焼き払った。翌慶応4年、鳥羽伏見での正面戦争のきっかけとなった。 ; 4th month of Meiji 24 (1891) ; Edo ; triptych ; On the eve of the Meiji Restoration of 1868, plots and conspiracies were rife in the city of Edo, where masterless samurai committed all sorts of excesses at the instigation of the Satsuma domain. Its patience spent, the Shonai domain in charge of maintaining order in the city sent the Shinchogumi, a special police unit under its command, to attack the Satsuma mansion in Mita (in Edo), setting fire to it. This incident is linked to the well-known Battle of Toba-Fushimi in Kyoto in 1868 between Satsuma-Choshu forces and shogunal troops.
