"EIGA MONOGATARI" is a typical historical tale of the period from the late 9th century to the late 11th century in chronicle from describing the Japanese artistocratic society. This is an illustration in the first of the 40 volumes (bound in 9) printed in the Edo period, hand-colored letter. The illustration is a scene of court life in the period of Emperor Murakami (reign 946-967) depicting the ladies playing at the game of go (IGO) and SUGOROKU in front of the Emperor (behind the bamboo blind).
